NEW YORK – The University of Delaware women’s indoor track & field team took a limited number of runners to the season-opening College of New Jersey Open Saturday evening, but that didn’t stop the Blue Hens from dominating the action.

Eight Delaware runners competed at the meet but the Blue Hens posted three first place finishes, two runner-up finishes, three third place showing, and a fourth place finish at the meet held at the New York City Armory.

There was no team scoring at the meet, which also included teams from the College of New Jersey, Rutgers-Camden, Ramapo, Marywood, Columbia, Manhattanville, Rutgers, Neumann, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Princeton, and the U.S. Mer

Delaware captured three individual titles as senior Angie Spadaccini won the 1,000 meters (career-best 2:59.19), junior Jeanette Bendolph captured the mile run (5:05.92), and junior Michaela Meyer won the 600 meters (1:37.11) witih the second best time in UD history.

Senior LIz McGroarty placed second in the 5,000 meters (17:19.02), Valerie Romero was second in the mile (5:16.20), and Bendolph added her second top three finish of the meet with a third place showing in the 600 meters (1:40.33), the third best time in school history. McGroarty's time was also the third best in UD history and qualified her for the ECAC Championships at the end of the season.

“I am so excited and proud of the eight ladies who represented the team this evening,” said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith. “This was a great way to start the indoor season. I am looking forward to great things this winter and spring. “
