NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware head coach Laura Travis announced Monday the addition of Kelly Anderson as the program’s first-ever full-time assistant coach.
Anderson joins UD after serving as the women’s head coach at Stetson University. She also held coaching roles at Campbellsville, Illinois and South Florida.
“It is exciting to see how the University of Delaware Athletic Department is growing and the positive energy around it is tangible,” stated Anderson. “I’m grateful for this opportunity to work with Coach Travis in a program she has established so well, and am looking forward to being a small part in the growth and development of the student-athletes and in the mission to accomplish the goals of the team.”
Along with her coaching experiences, Anderson brings some impressive accomplishments as a player. A native of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, Anderson graduated with highest honors from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in management and finance. During her tenure as a player, she led the Yellow Jackets to a No. 6 team ranking while finishing her career third in program history with 92 singles wins and third with 81 doubles victories.
Anderson also competed professionally on the South African Fed Cup team and collected six ITF doubles titles. She placed as high as No. 135 (doubles) and No. 625 (singles) in the WTA world rankings.
“We are excited to have Kelly join our Blue Hen coaching team!” Travis remarked. “She has reached incredible levels of success in our sport as a junior player in South Africa, as a collegiate player at Georgia Tech under coach Bryan Shelton, on the WTA pro tour, and as a coach at multiple high level programs. Perhaps more importantly, our values and coaching philosophy align and she understands our vision, which is paramount for moving our program forward while continuing to excel in the classroom and in the community. I am grateful to the University for investing in all of our athletic programs and looking forward to starting our spring season!”
