NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men’s basketball team jumped out to an 11-point halftime cushion and led comfortably throughout the second half as the Blue Hens posted an impressive 76-62 victory over CSU Bakersfield Wednesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Freshman guard Kevin Anderson led Delaware (6-6) with 22 points and knocked down four three-pointers, while backcourt mate Ryan Daly (left) added 20 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Eric Carter (below) posted his third double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Hens, who enjoyed a 39-24 rebounding edge.

Jarkel Joiner scored a game-high 23 points for the Roadrunners (7-7), who had their three-game winning streak snapped.

Delaware led 22-19 with 8:39 left in the first half, but then scored the next seven points to go up double figures at 29-19 on a Daly free throw at the 4:11 mark. The Roadrunners closed within 35-27, before a Darian Bryant layup and a Carter free throw gave the Blue Hens a 38-27 advantage at the break.

CSU Bakersfield opened the second half with a basket, but Anderson countered with consecutive three-pointers to extend the margin to 44-29 with 18:24 to play. The Blue Hens led by at least 13 points the rest of the way, going up as much as 24 points at 64-40 with 6:43 on the clock.

“I feel like we’re getting better. Our guards were really good tonight, and Eric Carter was big for us as well. We did a good job of not turning the ball over against their pressure, and we’re in a better rhythm than a couple weeks ago. This win gives us a lot of confidence moving forward, and gives us momentum heading into Christmas.”
