CHARLESTON, S.C. – The University of Delaware men’s basketball team posted an impressive offensive performance but could not keep up with hot-shooting College of Charleston as the Cougars pulled away late for a 93-78 victory Tuesday night at TD Arena.

League preseason favorite Charleston (11-3, 2-0 CAA) shot 66.7 percent from the field and knocked down 20 of 23 free throws while winning its fourth straight game and improving to 7-0 at home this year. Delaware (8-7, 1-1 CAA), which had its four-game winning streak snapped, shot 56.0 percent and went 17 of 22 from the line.

The Blue Hens led 59-58 on a Ryan Allen three-pointer with 13:37 remaining, but the Cougars answered with an 11-2 run and led the rest of the way. Eric Carter stopped the spurt with a bucket to make it a 69-63 game, but Charleston scored the next six points to pull away.

Carter scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds for Delaware, while Ryan Daly added 18 points on the night. Anthony Mosley contributed 15 points, while Allen was the fourth Blue Hen in double figures with 12 points.

CAA Preseason Player of the Year Joe Chealey paced Charleston with 29 points, while Jarrell Brantley added 26 points and six rebounds.

Both teams shot over 60 percent in an entertaining first half that featured 12 lead changes. Neither squad led by more than five points, and the Blue Hens were up three before a pair of Brantley free throws gave Delaware a slim 44-43 lead at the break.

“Charleston played really well, and showed why they were picked first in the league. When they are shooting that well, they’re tough to beat. I thought we played pretty good defense on certain possessions, but their offense was better tonight. I love our team – to come on the road and go toe-to-toe with the preseason favorite gives us a lot to build on. Eric (Carter) is really moving well, and we need that production inside. We feel good to split this road trip, now we have to take care of business at home.”

• The game featured 25 lead changes
• Mosley surpassed the 800-point mark for his career
• Daly reached double figures for the 13th straight game
• Charleston now leads the all-time series, 7-5, and has won four straight over the Blue Hens
