WILMINGTON, N.C. – Junior Nicole Enabosi hit a career milestone while the Blue Hens won their fifth straight game with an 82-49 triumph over UNCW at Trask Coliseum Friday evening.
With her 25-point performance, Enabosi became the 27th player in Delaware women’s basketball history to eclipse the 1,000 point mark. The forward added 14 rebounds for her 13th double double of the season and 34th of her three-year career.
UD (12-5, 5-1 CAA) led wire-to-wire and finished the game with its largest lead at 33 points – which is coincidently Enabosi’s jersey number.
Sophomore Samone DeFreese contributed her third double double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists, two steals and zero turnovers in 26 minutes.
Madison Raque guided the Seahawks (7-11, 0-7 CAA) with 13 points while Lacey Suggs posted 12.
Head Coach Natasha Adair
“This was a great team win. On the road, we talk about being road tough and our will being greater than our opponents and finishing the game exhausted. We needed to put together a whole 40 minute effort. I felt our last couple of games, we let our opponent dictate our tempo and from the opening tip to the final buzzer tonight, we played Delaware basketball and I’m so proud of this group. We will celebrate it tonight, but then we get ready for another tough, tough road contest [Sunday at Elon]. This was a great team effort and one of the other highlights was Nicole’s 1000th point.
“We wanted to come out hard. We know that UNCW is a great team. All of their losses have been close this year and they’re not a team to take lightly. We knew they were going to come out hard, but I’m really proud of my team and how they played. We passed the ball really well and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my sisters. They always put me in the right position, in the right spot. They always know where I am and where I’m efficient. And they get me the ball there. It’s awesome to get [1,000 points] as a junior, I didn’t know I was that close. It’s surreal, it’s amazing, mind-blowing. I didn’t know I was that close at all. When I came to Delaware, I didn’t think it was something that was possible. To get it today was great.”
