University of Delaware freshman guard Ryan Allen was named CAA Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday.

Allen (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) averaged 24.0 points and 4.0 rebounds on the week, leading the team in scoring during both of the Blue Hens’ contests. He posted his third and fourth 20-point efforts of the year, including a 22-point performance on Thursday vs. Towson where he also knocked down eight three-pointers, shot 5 of 7 from behind the arc, and tied his career high with four assists.

Allen then added a career-high 26 points on Saturday at Elon, reaching double figures for the ninth straight game. The freshman guard has hit a three-pointer in all 22 games in which he has appeared, tied for the third longest streak in school history. Allen is ninth in the country for three-pointers among freshmen with 62 on the season, which is also six shy of the UD single season freshman record.

This is the third conference Rookie of the Week honor for the Allen, as he also captured the award on Dec. 4 and Jan. 2. The award if the fifth of the season for a Blue Hen freshman, as Kevin Anderson also won the honor twice on Dec. 18 and Dec. 26.

Delaware (11-14, 4-8 CAA) hosts Northeastern on Thursday at 7 p.m. before traveling to William & Mary on Saturday at 2 p.m.
