NEWARK, Del. Blue Hen juniors Ashley Dingman and Valentina Mueller have been named University of Delaware’s women’s golf team captains for the spring 2018 season, UD head coach Patty Post has announced.

Dingman, a native of Fairfield, Calif., was the Delaware Invitational medalist during the fall with a two under par 73-73-68-214, the second lowest 54-hole score in Blue Hen history. Her final round 68 is tied for the second lowest round in school history. Following her first career individual title, Dingman was named CAA Women’s Golfer of the Week on Oct. 25. She appeared in all five tournaments for the Blue Hens in the fall season, posting top 20 finishes in all but one invitational and ranking third on the team with a 75.14 average round.

Mueller, a native of St. Niklausen, Switzerland, appeared in all five tournaments for the Blue Hens on the season and ranks fourth on the team with a 76.64 stroke average. She tied for fourth place at the season opening Rutgers Invitational with a nine over par 75-76-74-225 and also competed in the Nittany Lion, Princeton, Yale Intercollegiate and Delaware Invitationals in the fall. Mueller fired a season-low score 72 in the second round at the Yale Intercollegiate.

"Ashley and Valentina are well deserved choices for captains voted on by their teammates," Post said. "They exhibit the three C's that all captains should; they are caring, courageous and consistent. They go above and beyond what is asked of them by their coaches, teammates and athletics staff. Valentina and Ashley will be great leaders for this team heading into our spring season and beyond."

UD opens its spring season on Feb. 25 at the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Arizona.
