TOWSON, Md. – Ryan Allen’s last second three-point attempt was blocked by Eddie Keith II as Towson held off Delaware, 67-65, in Colonial Athletic Association action Thursday night at SECU Arena.

The Tigers (18-10, 8-7 CAA) trailed 63-61 with 3:55 to play, but scored the next six points to go up four with 26 seconds to play. Towson then missed two free throws, before Ryan Daly converted a layup to bring the Blue Hens (11-17, 4-11 CAA) within a pair with 14 seconds on the clock.

Mike Morsell then missed two more from the line, but Allen’s contested three-pointer from the top of the key was deflected by Keith II.

Daly scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Delaware in his return from a sprained ankle, while Anthony Mosley also contributed 18 points on the night. Allen finished with 15 points, while Eric Carter chipped in with eight points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Morsell poured in 19 points for Towson, while Brian Starr added 15 on the night.

The teams were tied midway through the first half, before Delaware used a seven-point run to go up 25-18 on a Daly three-pointer. Towson answered with an eight-point spurt to take the lead, before two Daly free throws and one by Skye Johnson gave the Blue Hens a 32-30 edge at the intermission.

Neither team led by more than three points during the majority of the second half, and after the Tigers went up 61-58, Mosley converted a three-point play and added a layup to put Delaware up a pair with 3:55 to play. However Towson then answered with six straight to take the lead for good.

HEAD COACH MARTIN INGELSBY
“We keep putting ourselves in position to win down the stretch, but just can’t get over the hump. This is a tough place to play against a good basketball team, and we battled but just came up a little short. Our zone was good and for the most part we did well rebounding the basketball, but gave up too many offensive rebounds. We got into a good flow offensively, but a couple of turnovers hurt us down the stretch. We’re playing well, and our time is coming.”
