PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Sophomore Claire D’Antonio recorded her first-career hat trick, but it wasn’t enough for the Blue Hens as Delaware picked up the 12-5 loss at No. 12 Penn Saturday in the team’s season-opener at Franklin Field.
 
D’Antonio, who totaled three goals during her freshman campaign, also collected a ground ball and draw control for the Hens (0-1).
 
Senior Becky Gohsler, a Preseason All-CAA honoree, led Delaware with four draw controls, four caused turnovers and two ground balls.
 
Junior Chantae Simms added a career-high five ground balls to go along with two caused turnovers.
 
UD also saw goals from sophomore Christine Long and Caroline Farley while Sydney Rausa logged Delaware’s lone assist on the day.
 
Senior goalie Taylor Carpentier notched 11 saves in the loss.
 
Alex Condon guided the Quakers (1-0) with four goals while Gabby Rosenzweig tallied three goals and an assist. Maggie Smith was credited with the win after grabbing six saves in 30 minutes of play in the cage.
