TOWSON, Md. – Blue Hen junior Anna Steinmetz belted a three-run homer in both games as the University of Delaware softball team split a doubleheader at Towson Saturday afternoon, dropping the opener 7-4 before responding with an 8-4 win in the nightcap.

Towson (23-9, 1-4 CAA) took the early lead in the opener when Brook Miko belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning, while Miko added a two-run shot in the third to give the Tigers a 5-0 cushion.

Delaware (8-21, 2-3 CAA) scored a run without a hit in the top of the fifth, as Giovanna Kolofer reached on an error with the bases loaded to allow Ali Davis to cross the plate. However RBI doubles by Riley Thies and Kendyl Scott in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 7-1 Towson advantage.

Steinmetz clubbed a three-run homer in the top of the seventh, but the Blue Hens would not get closer.

The Tigers again struck first in the nightcap on an RBI single by Daria Edwards in the bottom of the first inning, but Delaware answered by scoring the game’s next eight runs.

Steinmetz blasted another three-run shot in the top of the third to put the Blue Hens in front for good, while Mariah Kondravy drilled a three-run homer of her own the following frame to make it a 6-1 game. Alyshia Dellatore then laced a two-run single up the middle in the top of the sixth to put Delaware up seven.

Nicole Stockinger hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to bring the Tigers within four, but Jordan Cargile did not allow another hit the rest of the way to seal the victory.
