TOWSON, Md. – The University of Delaware softball team rallied in the top of the seventh inning but fell just short as the Blue Hens dropped a 5-3 decision to Towson Sunday afternoon at the Tiger Softball Stadium.

Delaware (8-22, 2-4 CAA) trailed by five runs in the top of the seventh, but Mariah Kondravy led off with an infield single before Alyshia Dellatore reached on an error. One out later Chayanna Gallardo delivered an RBI single, driving home pinch runner Miranda O’Donald to put the Blue Hens on the board.

Ali Davis then fouled out but Giovanna Kolofer followed by reaching on another Tigers error, allowing Mattie Nuccio and Keiana Smith to cross the plate and make it a two-run game. However Towson pitcher Megan Dejter responded to strike out Leanna Gearhart looking to end the game.

Towson (24-9, 2-4 CAA) jumped ahead in the bottom of the first when Brook Miko singled home Kendyl Scott and Nicole Stockinger followed with a two-run homer. Jessica Swistock added an RBI double in the fourth, while Stockinger doubled home a run in the fifth.

• Gallardo recorded her sixth RBI of the season
Sarah Piening, who allowed five runs on eight hits during five innings in the circle, dropped to 4-11 on the season
• Towson took the weekend series after the teams split a doubleheader on Saturday
