ELKTON, Md. – Conference matches bring a different level of intensity and competitiveness.

That’s exactly what was on display on Sunday afternoon when the University of Delaware men’s tennis team dropped a hard-fought match against conference foe Drexel, 4-2.

Prior to the match, the Blue Hens recognized and honored seniors Dustin Britton and Colin Wong, who have given countless hours of dedication, both on and off the court during their time at Delaware.

Both Britton and Wong highlighted the match with singles victories on their Senior Day.

“Even in the loss, I’m happy with our overall performance in the match. I’m very proud of our guys and the sportsmanship shown by them in a very heated and competitive match,” head coach Pablo Montana said.

Drexel took the opening doubles match, but Nathan Benyowitz and Laurenz Lankes evened it up with their fifth straight win and improved to 9-2 in doubles play.

However, the Dragons won a thriller at #3 doubles to grab the first point of the match.

Drexel grabbed the first two singles matches, but Britton got the Blue Hens on the board with a hard-fought three-set victory at #1 singles.

Wong followed soon after with a three-set thriller of his own to make it 3-2.

Drexel picked up the win at #5 singles to seal the victory.

“Nathan and Laurenz continue to lead us in doubles and they were dominant again today. We had our chance in doubles, but came up just short. In singles, we gave it everything we had, but came up a little short in the end. I’m very happy that our seniors pulled out wins on their Senior Day,” Montana added.

The Blue Hens are right back in action tomorrow afternoon when they head to Baltimore, Md. to take on Loyola. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
