HEN SCRATCHINGS

CAA BATTLE: The Blue Hens are set to hit the road to take on Hofstra University for their third conference game of the year. With both teams currently sitting on a conference record of 1-1, and just two conference games remaining following this week’s action, this matchup will prove to be crucial in deciding the standings heading in to the CAA Tournament.

FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT: The mantra for the Blue Hens this season has been “run through the line”, and Delaware has been doing that in full force. Entering the fourth quarter this year, Delaware has either led or been within two goals of the lead in every game. Delaware has also scored 23 fourth quarter goals this season, compared to Hofstra’s 15. If the game is close heading in to the final quarter, the advantage will go to Delaware.

SOPHOMORE ATTACKMEN: Saturday’s game will feature two of the best attackmen in the CAA between Delaware’s Charlie Kitchen, and Hofstra’s Ryan Tierney. Kitchen has netted 23 goals this year while Tierney has been good for 19. Tierney leads the conference in assists with 21 compared to Kitchen’s 10. Tierney also sits second in the conference in points at 40 and Kitchen sits in fourth with 33. Both will likely be the focus in Saturday’s showdown, and both will make an impact on the scoreboard.

BREAK THE STREAK: The Pride have come out with a victory in every game since 2012. This year’s matchup can be different though. The Blue Hens will enter the weekend with four players that rank in the top 10 in the conference for goals per game, while defender Austin Haynes and goalie Matt DeLuca rank first in the conference in caused turnovers per game and saves per game respectively. Hofstra’s defense has managed to hold opponents to single digit goals in all but one game this season, they will be put to the test on Saturday.
