RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of Delaware men’s golf team fired a 312 score on Friday and sits in seventh place following the first day of the CAA Championship.

James Madison leads the nine-team field with a 290 score, followed by UNCW at 298 and Drexel at 300.

Blue Hen senior Jack Gianniny carded a four over par 76 on the par 72, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course, ending the day tied for 16th place in the individual standings. Gianniny birdied the sixth and 16th holes while adding 12 pars during his opening round.

Jack Melville is tied for 19th place with a five over par 77, as he birdied the third and 15th holes to go with 10 pars during Friday’s action. Christian Chapman, who birdied the third hole and finished his day with six consecutive pars, is tied for 28th place with a seven over par 79.

Kieran Purcell carded an eight over par 80, featuring birdies on the 10th and 17th holes, to end the day tied for 31st place. Blaine Lafferty, who birdied the 17th hole, sits in 45th place with a 13 over par 85.

Walker Cress of James Madison leads the way with a three under par 69, while his teammate Matt Cowgill and Drexel’s Aaron Fricke are each two shots back.

The second round of the three-round championship will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
