BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Delaware women’s tennis season came to a halt Friday afternoon as the Blue Hens fell to the College of Charleston, 4-1, in the CAA Tournament Quarterfinals at the Burlington Tennis Center.
The Hens (12-6) opened the day by picking up the doubles point in the first and third flights.
Sophomore Brooke Pilkington (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) and junior Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) paired for the 6-4 decision in top-flight play. The duo wrap the year with 21 doubles victories, a mark good for fourth in single-season history.
Junior Draga Sabotic (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) and freshman Sarah Whited (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) pulled out the 7-6 (3) No. 3 doubles win to clinch the team point.
Delaware battled in singles action, but the Phoenix (17-10) rallied for victories in the first, fourth and second spots to advance to Saturday’s semifinals.
Head coach Laura Travis
“It was an exciting doubles point and we competed hard in singles, but credit to the College of Charleston as they seemed to have an answer for everything. I’m proud of this team and everything we have accomplished this year.”
