NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware softball team dropped a home Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader to the College of Charleston, 9-5 and 8-0, Saturday afternoon at the UD Softball Stadium.

The Cougars (27-20, 6-8 CAA) scored three runs in the top of the first inning during the opener, but the Blue Hens (10-30, 2-12 CAA) answered back in the bottom half when Reyna de Jesus blasted a three-run homer to centerfield.

Sara Garcia drilled a two-run shot in the top of the third inning to put Charleston back on top, before Delaware countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull even. Leanna Gearhart scored the first run of the frame when Anna Steinmetz reached on an error, while de Jesus followed with an RBI single to rightfield that chased home Miranda O’Donald.

The game remained tied until the top of the 10th inning, when Charleston pushed across four runs to take control.

The Cougars then scored four times in the top of the third inning during the nightcap, highlighted by a two-run single from Garcia. Charleston tacked on three runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth to complete the twinbill sweep.

• de Jesus notched her first career three-hit game in the opener, while the home run was the first of her career
Mariah Kondravy added four hits on the day, and with 227 career hits is now 12 shy of the UD record
Leanna Gearhart added two hits in both contests
Chayanna Gallardo recorded two hits in the opener, while Giovanna Kolofer contributed one
