WILMINGTON, N.C. – Blue Hen senior first baseman Mariah Kondravy belted a tiebreaking home run in the top of the seventh inning as the University of Delaware softball team defeated UNCW, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at Boseman Field.

With the teams knotted at 3-3, Kondravy blasted a pitch over the leftfield fence for the Blue Hens (13-32, 5-12 CAA), who remained in contention for a CAA Tournament berth. UD pitcher Jordan Cargile allowed a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh but retired the next two batters to seal the victory.

Delaware took the lead in the top of the third, as after Leanna Gearhart led off with a triple and Giovanna Kolofer followed with a walk, Anna Steinmetz clubbed a two-run double to leftcenter. One out later Chayanna Gallardo laced a double to leftfield, chasing home Steinmetz to put the Blue Hens up three.

UNCW (16-27, 6-12 CAA) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as Kali Jones led off with a single and came all the way around to score when the ball got past UD centerfielder Julia Solderitch. Dominique Travers then clubbed a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to pull the Seahawks even, before Kondravy’s blast won it for the Blue Hens in the seventh.

Cargile picked up her sixth win of the season after allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits while Kondravy, Steinmetz and Solderitch each finished with a pair of hits at the plate.

• Gearhart’s triple was the 22nd of her career, tying her for the UD career record along with Lauren Mark
• Kondravy smacked the 32nd homer of her career and is now tied for the team lead with seven this year, along with Steinmetz
• Steinmetz hit two doubles and is now tied for ninth in Blue Hen history with 28
• Solderitch posted the first two-hit game of her career
• Delaware has not dropped a series to UNCW since 2009
