NEWARK, Del. – Mariah Kondravy and Anna Steinmetz each belted two home runs as the University of Delaware softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Mount St. Mary’s, 8-1 and 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at the UD Softball Stadium.

Delaware (15-31) took control of the opener by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Leanna Gearhart led off with her school record 23rd career triple, while Giovanna Kolofer followed with an RBI single. Kondarvy then blasted a two-run homer, while Steinmetz doubled and eventually scored when Alyshia Dellatore bounced into a fielder’s choice.

Mount St. Mary’s (16-25-1) got on the board in the top of the second on an RBI single by Kaylee Stoner, but Reyna de Jesus singled home Kolofer in the bottom half to put the Blue Hens back up four. After Gearhart drove home Dellatore with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third, Kondravy and Steinmetz clubbed back to back homers in the fourth to close the scoring.

Sarah Piening allowed just one run on six hits during six innings in the circle to pick up her seventh win of the season.

Delaware again jumped in front during the nightcap in the bottom of the first inning when Steinmetz singled home Kolofer. The Mountaineers tied the game in the top of the second on a run-scoring single by Shea McFarland and added a run on a bases loaded walk in the fourth, but Steinmetz belted her second longball of the day in the bottom half to make it a 2-2 game.

After Mount St. Mary’s went back in front during the top of the fifth, Julia Solderitch walked in the bottom half and came around to score on a two-out triple to rightcenter by Kolofer.

The teams remained tied at 3-3 until the bottom of the seventh, when Solderitch again led off with a walk and eventually moved to third on a groundout and a wild pitch. Kolofer then worked a walk, and after the Mountaineers’ catcher threw the ball back to the pitcher, Solderitch raced home with the winning run.
