NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men’s basketball head coach Martin Ingelsby has announced that High Point transfer Justyn Mutts has joined the Blue Hens program.

Mutts, a 6-7 forward from Millville, N.J., played one season for the Panthers and will have three seasons of eligibility with UD after sitting out the 2018-19 campaign.

Mutts appeared in 28 games while making 18 starts this season for High Point, which finished with a 14-16 overall record including a 9-9 mark in the Big South Conference.

A Big South All-Freshman Team selection, Mutts ranked fourth on the squad with a 6.0 scoring average and reached double figures seven times on the year. He made his first career start vs. Methodist on Nov. 21 when he posted 13 points and six rebounds, and then tied his career-high with 13 points, grabbed a career-high five steals and collected five rebounds at Pittsburgh on Nov. 28. He tallied a career-best 10 rebounds against Liberty on Jan. 18 during a season-high 34 minutes on the floor.

Mutts led the Panthers with 32 blocks on the season, and ranked second on the squad with 30 steals. He averaged 20.3 minutes a game during his freshman campaign, shooting 53.8 percent from the field while ranking fourth on the team with 112 total rebounds, an average of 4.0 per game.

During his senior campaign at St. Augustine Preparatory School, Mutts was named the 2017 Courier-Post Player of the Year after averaging 12.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 3.5 blocks per game. He helped lead St. Augustine Prep to the 2016 and 2017 state championship and three Cape Atlantic League titles. As a junior, Mutts was dubbed third team All-New Jersey and first team All-South Jersey.

“We are very excited to announce the signing of Justyn Mutts into our basketball program,” Ingelsby said. “Justyn is a talented combo forward with great athleticism and a vastly improving skill set. The year off will help him continue to develop his overall game and we expect big things out of him in the 2019-20 season and beyond.”
