RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware sophomore libero Ariel Shonk was named the Colonial Athletic Association Volleyball Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after helping lead the Blue Hens to the Radisson Cross Keys Greyhound Challenge title over the weekend.

Shonk, a native of Atlanta, Ga. (Riverwood International Charter), paced the Blue Hens with 55 digs during the three matches while also adding nine assists during the invitational.

She posted a match-best 25 digs, her highest total of the season, during Delaware’s dramatic 3-2 win over UMBC on Friday in the tournament opener. Shonk then again led all players with 22 digs in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over La Salle, and tied Katie Hank for the team lead with eight digs during the 3-0 triumph over Loyola (Md.) that night.

Shonk averaged 5.00 digs per set on the weekend, and ranks fifth in the league by averaging 3.89 digs so far this season.

Shonk, the 2012 CAA Defensive Specialist of the Year and a Preseason All-Conference pick this fall, earned her fourth career CAA weekly honor.

Delaware, which is 3-3 on the season, heads to Penn on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference match with the Quakers. The Blue Hens will then host the Delaware Invitational this weekend, facing Rutgers Friday at 7 p.m. before taking on Sacred Heart at 1 p.m. and Furman at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Bob Carpenter Center. - DDD-
