RICHMOND, Va. -- For the first time in his rookie season, Jaime Martinez of the University of Delaware men's soccer team was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week as announced in a league release Monday. Martinez is the second Delaware freshman who has earned conference Rookie of the Week accolades.

In Delaware's single contest last Wednesday at Iona, Martinez scored his third goal of the season while also passing out an assist in the Blue Hens 3-0 triumph. Martinez's assist was on the game-winning goal scored by Joe Dipre. The multi-point performance is Martinez's second of the year and he is the just the fourth Delaware student-athlete who has registered a multi-point match in 2013.

In the Blue Hens eight games this season, Martinez has scored three goals and has notched three assists. He currently sits third in team rank for points with nine. Martinez ranks in the CAA top-five in assists, assists per game (0.38), points and points per game (1.12).

"I am very happy for Jaime," said Delaware head coach Ian Hennessy. "He has been developing week by week and is starting to get a better feel for what I am looking for in his position. He has a fabulous work ethic on both sides of the ball and I am happy to see it recognized with this honor."

As a unit, Delaware leads the CAA in every offensive category. The Blue Hens also rank first nationally in points per game (8.75), third in goals (23) and assists (22).

Delaware currently owns a 7-1 overall record with a four-game win streak. In the four-game span, the Blue Hens have outscored their opponents 10-1 earning shutout wins on three occasions.

The squad returns to the pitch tomorrow, Oct. 1 when Delaware travels to Baltimore, Md. to take on nationally ranked UMBC. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
