RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware sophomore libero Ariel Shonk has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Blue Hens in digs during their weekend trip to Virginia.

Shonk paced the Blue Hens with a season-high 38 digs during Friday’s five-set victory over William & Mary, and surpassed the 1,000 digs mark for her career. She then added a mach-best 26 digs in the four-set loss to James Madison on Sunday.

Shonk, who averaged 7.11 digs per set during the road trip, earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors for the third time this season.

Shonk is currently tied for 10th in Division I with 5.49 digs per set, a mark that is good for second in the conference.

Shonk and the Blue Hens (10-9, 2-3 CAA) are back on the road this weekend, facing Hofstra on Friday at 7 p.m. and Northeastern Sunday at 1 p.m.
