Jessie McBurney begins her first year at the University of Delaware as Athletics Marketing and Promotions Intern beginning in 2013-14.
In her role at Delaware, McBurney will work closely with Assistant Director of Athletics for Marketing and Promotions Kristy Fletcher and Marketing Assistant Lauren Baker in developing and executing marketing plans, working with UD Ticket Operations to spearhead group sales initiatives, managing the Athletics Marketing student work force, and implementing community athletics initiatives.
McBurney, who earned her bachelor's degree in communications with a concentration in public relations from East Carolina University in May, 2012, joins the Blue Hens after serving last season as Athletic Marketing Assistant at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.
At Appalachian State, McBurney handled direct marketing and promotional planning for the men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, and softball programs. She created marketing and advertising plans, wrote game day scripts, created new fan engagement strategies, and coordinated group ticket sales opportunities within the community. She also supervised undergraduate marketing interns, worked with the Junior Mountaineer Kids Club, and assisted with IMG College on sponsorships.
Prior to her year at ASU, McBurney served as Social Media Intern for the East Carolina University Alumni Association where she assisted in boosting the ECUAA's presence on social networking sites through alumni events, photos, videos, and news releases.
As an undergraduate, she worked four years at the Atlantic Coast Conference men's and women's basketball tournaments and at the football championship game, assisting in customer service, as a media liaison, press conference manager, and mascot handler.
While at East Carolina, McBurney was a four-year Dean's List student, was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Service Sorority, served as executive board member of the ECU Student Pirate Club, and was vice president of recruitment for the ECU Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).
She will reside in the Newark area.
