One of the top golfers in recent University of Delaware history, Tommy Ellison begins his seventh season with the Blue Hen coaching staff during the 2016-17 season.
Ellison, a left-hander from Bethany Beach, Del., enjoyed an outstanding career for the Blue Hens in 2005-09, serving as a team captain as a senior and being named the UD Alumni Association/John J. DeLuca/Scotty Duncan Memorial Team Most Valuable Player as a junior.
A four-year letterwinner, Ellison ranks No. 5 on the all-time Blue Hen career stroke average list with a mark of 75.10 in 75 rounds. He posted 15 Top 20 and eight Top 10 finishes during his career, and finished 15th at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships in 2008 and 22nd in 2009.
He shot a career-best 68 twice during his career and he owns the fifth best single season stroke average in school history with a mark of 74.35 in 2008-09. He also posted the seventh best stroke average in 2005-06 (74.71) and the eighth best mark (74.85) in 2007-08. His best career tournament finish was a second place showing at the Lafayette Invitational in 2008.
Ellison, who earned his degree in European history at Delaware in 2009, enjoyed a standout high school career at Worcester (Md.) Prep where he earned team and conference Most Valuable Player awards and was a National Honor Society member.
Ellison was recently named head professional at Ed Oliver's Golf Course in Wilmington, Del. Previously he served as the head professional at Brandywine Country Club in Talleyville, Del.
