FLUSHING, N.Y. – University of Delaware sophomore Nataliya Naumova (Moscow, Russia) represented the Blue Hens this past weekend as the Women’s College Invitational Doubles Flight Four Champion at the USTA National Tennis Center.

Paired with Fordham’s Destiny Grunin, the duo went 4-0 on the day to claim the title.

The closest match of the day for Naumova and Grunin was an 8-5 victory over Pitt’s Kimmy Borza and Katherine Castro in the finals.

Also in Flight Four Doubles play, juniors Christina Harrington (Millersville, Md.) and Abby Martinez (Winter Haven, Fla.) were 2-1 with wins over Seton Hall and St. Francis.

Senior Dorothy Safron (New York, N.Y.) and Martinez led the Hens in singles play, each going 2-1 in their respective flights.

Safron defeated Binghamton’s Katya Medianik (7-5, 6-1) and UConn’s Srna Stosljeciv (7-6 (6), 1-6, 10-5) in Flight A while Martinez picked up wins over UConn’s Jenise Vargas (6-4, 0-6, 10-6) and Army’s Megan Evans (6-1, 6-1) in Flight H.

     · The Blue Hens won all six tiebreaker matches on the weekend.
     · Dorothy Safron holds a career record of 64-35, a mark good for eighth in Delaware history.  Elena Berry (2006-10) is seventh with 66 career victories.
     · Olivia Heim is 53-39 in a Delaware uniform, a record good to tie for 15th in UD history with Kristen Mueller (2006-10) and Elly Giese (1998-02).
     · Dorothy Safron and Carmen Lai are 7-3 in doubles play this season and hold a career record of 21-15, which is good for ninth in Delaware history.
     · Dorothy Safron is 55-34 all-time in doubles play, a mark good for 10th all-time in Delaware history.
     · UD is 41-41 in singles play and 23-14 in doubles action this season.
