Delaware Highlighted By Collegiate Novice 8+ Teamís 11th Place Finish at Head of the Occoquan

FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Delaware rowing team completed its 2013 fall season at the Head of the Occoquan Regatta on the Occoquan Reservoir, Saturday, Nov. 2.

The Collegiate Novice 8+ registered the Blue Hens highest finish of the event. The Collegiate Novice 8+ finished 11 of 24 boats with a time of 20:40.13.

The Blue Hens had three teams compete in the Collegiate 8+ event. The UD “B” team finished 13th (18:11.89) while the UD “A” placed 16th (18:27.13) with the UD “C” squad finishing 25th (19:23.12).

In the College 4+ event, the Delaware “A” team finished 30th (21:35.82) while the “B” team finished 35th (22:43.08).

The members of each Delaware crew are listed below.

College Novice 8+ - c-Tatiana Gomez, 8-Madeline Lewis, 7-Olivia Brady, 6-Andrea Acosta, 5-Haley Nieweg, 4-Kristina Harmon, 3-Kristen Reisor, 2-Taylour Kissinger, 1-Rebecca Sassone.

College 8+ “A”- c-Jamie Noce, 8-Shannon Taylor, 7-Kristen Van Iderstine, 6-Jenny Kohler, 5-Kat Francis, 4-Bethany Porter, 3-Calla Cissel, 2-Hannah Scholes, 1-Danni Weader.

College 8+ “B”- c-Hayley Diverio, 8-Meredith Murphy, 7-Corey Holloway, 6-Annie Waskover, 5-Catherine Manner, 4-Kate Flood, 3-Angela Quinn, 2-Carly Alexander, 1-Sam Noel.

College 8+ “C”- c-Sarah Tenenbaum, 8-Alex Cruz, 7-Jen Boone, 6-Megan Kirby, 5-Danielle Lawler, 4-Sara Afshar, 3-Shannon Bell, 2-Meghan Gerber, 1-Jeannie Kontos.

College 4+ “A” - c-Molly Gardner, 4-Alex Cruz, 3-Shannon Bell, 2-Curtira Williams, 1-Sam Noel.

College 4+ “B” - c-Kate Sneddon, 4-Sara Afshar, 3-Jen Boone, 2-Laurell Clark, 1-Jeannie Kontos.

“Our crews raced hard today,” said Delaware head coach Kevin Gruber. “We’re especially proud of our walk-on athletes, who did an awesome job in their first real race experience.  Team moves indoors next week, we’ll be looking to make big fitness gains training on-land through the winter.”  

The Blue Hens will begin their winter training next week in preparation for their spring championship season.
