WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior Kelsey Buchanan (South Riding, Va.) tallied her fourth double double of the season as the University of Delaware women’s basketball team earned its 44th straight Colonial Athletic Association victory with a 57-39 win over William & Mary at Kaplan Arena Thursday evening.

Buchanan collected 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field in addition to 12 rebounds and three assists for the Blue Hens, who improved to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in league action.

Freshman Erika Brown (Haledon, N.J.) registered 11 points in addition to collecting a career-best seven rebounds in 34 minutes of play.  Classmate Hannah Jardine (St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada), who earned her first start of her career against the Tribe, recorded a career-high seven rebounds while fellow freshman Shanice Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa.) added nine points and six rebounds.

The Hens dominated on the glass, outrebounding W&M by a margin of +22 at 52-30.
Delaware opened the game by a score of 9-0 and eventually went up, 23-7, with just under eight minutes remaining in the first half.

The Blue Hens proceeded to go up by 18 at 41-23 with 13:08 on the clock in the second before the Tribe gradually cut away at the lead.  W&M would come within 10 points with just over four and a half minutes remaining in the game, but UD finished the game on a 10-2 run to pick up the win.

Marlena Tremba led the Tribe (3-10, 0-1 CAA) with 11 points while Kaitlyn Mathieu collected four points, eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals for William & Mary.

POST-GAME QUOTES
Head Coach Tina Martin – “We really tuned in and played good defense today.  I feel really good about the team effort defensively.  This is a tough place to play and it’s a big win on the road so I’m really happy about that.  We had a lot of kids play their hearts out today and we got key contributions from various kids when we needed to.  I told them that rebounding was one of the keys tonight and they did a really nice job with that.  We’re still a work in progress and keep trying to get better every game.  Everybody’s been pitching in and that’s what we need to do.

Freshman Forward Hannah Jardine – “There’s a higher level of intensity in conference play and even though I’m a freshman, a lot of our players have played against them before and the teams are use to each other’s plays.  We’ll be ready to go for James Madison; it’ll be a tough game, but we’ll give it all we’ve got.  We’re a young team and we’ll make mistakes, but our leaders get us through it.”
