NEW YORK  --  The Distance Medley Relay team highlighted the action for the University of Delaware women’s indoor track and field team Friday night at the first day of the Armory Collegiate Invitational at the New York Armory.

Delaware’s foursome of Katrina Steenkamer, Tyler Jackson, Emily Gispert, and Lindsay Prettyman ran to a time of 11:56.75 to place fifth overall and qualify for the ECAC Championships in March at Boston.

The Blue Hens will continue action at the Armory meet beginning Saturday afternoon. Members of the Blue Hen squad will also compete at the Frank Coldren Invitational at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa. Saturday afternoon.

“We did a fine job today at the Armory,” said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane. “I was very pleased with the team's effort. We had season-best performance from almost everyone today, and to close out the day, an ECAC qualifying performance from Katrina Steenkamer, Tyler Jackson, Emily Gispert, and Lindsay Prettyman. We look forward to more good performances tomorrow at Ursinus College and from the group competing on day two at the Armory.”

In addition to the Distance Medley Relay, Delaware also competed in six other events Friday.

Latoya James placed 15th in the long jump (18-0 1/2) and 44th in the 60 meter hurdles (8.86), Alexandra Carroll was 20th in the 500 meters (1:17.24), Breanna Nicholson was 27th in the 500 meters (1:17.75), Toresha Foster was 30th in the 400 meters (57.69), Paige Thomson-Charles was 32nd in the 200 meters (25.76) and 38th in the 60 meters (7.96),  Jackson was 38th in the 200 meters (25.93), Chelsi Campbell was 42nd in the 200 meters (26.05), and Kelley Donovan was 47th in the 400 meters (58.45).
