RALEIGH, N.C.  -- University of Delaware distance runner Lindsay Prettyman continued her outstanding senior season Friday as she broke a 34-year old school record in the 1,500 meters to place third overall and lead the Blue Hens at the first day of the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State’s Paul Derr Track.

Delaware will continue action with a full day of racing Saturday at North Carolina State. In addition, members of the Blue Hens will also be competing at the Towson (Md.) Invitational Saturday.

Prettyman, who qualified for the NCAA Championships during the cross country season and set multiple school distance records during the indoor campaign, starred in her first outdoor competition of the spring as she placed third overall in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:21.65. She broke the school record of 4:23.0 set by Mary Schilly-Knisely in 1980. The time also qualified Prettyman for the ECAC Championships in May at Princeton.

“The ladies did a fine job today,” said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane. “Lindsay had an outstanding school record performance as she continues to rewrite the record books. I am so proud of everyone’s effort so far this season.”

Prettyman was the Hens’ top finisher on the day as she placed third in the 1,500 meter race trailing only winner Brook Handler of Michigan (4:18.26) and Brigitte Mania of Connecticut (4:21.46).

Delaware had six top 20 finishes on the day as Betsy Erlanger was seventh in the 1,500 meters (4:39.58), Kelsey Evancho was 14th in the high jump (5-3), Katrina Steenkamer was 14th in her section of the 5,000 meters (17:43.53), Toresha Foster was 15th in the 400 meters (55.81), and Amira Idris was 16th in the long jump (18-8).
