Delaware Men's Lacrosse Hits the Road to Take on Manhattan Today
RIVERDALE, N.Y. -- The University of Delaware men's lacrosse team will take a break from Colonial Athletic Association action today as the Blue Hens hit the road to take on Manhattan at 3 p.m. at Gaelic Park.
The Blue Hens (5-5), coming off a 9-7 home setback to CAA foe Drexel Saturday, will be looking to end a three-game losing streak while the host Jaspers (2-7) are coming off a 14-13 win at Marist Saturday that snapped a two-game losing streak.
The teams will be meeting for just the fourth time and for the first time since Delaware posted a 20-5 victory in 2007. Delaware also won by scores of 18-8 in 2003 and 9-8 in 2005.
Delaware ranks among the national leaders in man-down defense (.738/11th in NCAA), faceoff winning pt. (.596/13th), and scoring defense (.870/15th).
The Hens are led in scoring by Brian Kormondy (11 goals, 8 assists), Jackson Finigan (6 goals, 10 assists), and Steve DeLargy (10 goals, 4 assists) while faceoff specialist Tyler Barbarich (.618 faceoff win pct. /13th in NCAA) and goalkeeper Conor Peaks(.565 save pct./12th; 10.80 goals against average/18th) rank among the national leaders in their categories.
Manhattan, which lost its first five games this season before defeating Mt. St. Mary's 8-7 on March 9, are led by Ryan Payton (14 goals), Patrick Hodapp (11 goals), and goalkeeper Rich Akapnitis (13.26 gaa, .511 save pct.).
