David Arthur, a University of Delaware graduate who has spent eight years working in the sports marketing field throughout the state, joined the UD Athletics Department in the new position of assistant athletic director for sports & entertainment sales in August, 2014.

In his role at Delaware, Arthur is responsible for recruiting and attracting local, regional, and national events to UD’s first-rate athletics facilities, including sporting events, trade shows, concerts, commencement exercises, banquets, corporate events, and youth and high school championships, and using his experience and connections within the state and throughout the region to develop strategies to increase group ticket sales to Blue Hen athletics events.
“We’re thrilled to add David to our team,” said then UD Director of Athletics and Recreation Services Eric Ziady in making the announcement. “He’s done a great job at the Delaware Sports Commission (DSC) recruiting and attracting a wide variety of events to the state and we look forward to utilizing his experience and networking skills to grow the business model we’ve established for our athletics facilities at UD. He will play an integral role as we strengthen our focus on group sales to our athletic events as well as with our continued outreach to the Delaware community.”

David is a talented, passionate, and committed professional with a bright future ahead of him. The DSC looks forward to collaborating with Dave in his new position with the University.”

It is a very exciting time to be on campus and I am thrilled to be able to utilize the first-class athletic facilities to help meet the University’s goals.”

A native of Massapequa, N.Y., Arthur earned his degree in sport management from the University of Delaware in 2006.

After graduation, Arthur worked for the Newark, Del.-based Raymond Entertainment Group before joining Wilmington (Del.) Blue Rocks professional baseball club, where he held multiple positions, including the director of marketing. Most recently, Arthur served as the executive director of the Delaware Sports Commission since 2012.

The Delaware Sports Commission, which was formed in 2009, has as its mission to bid, recruit, and host regional and national sporting events at all levels of competition in the State for the purpose of utilizing sports facilities in the State, enhancing the economic development of the State, and promoting Delaware as a destination for amateur and professional sports.

Arthur has a passion for community service and assisting with non-profit organizations. He is a board member of The Next Generation of Northern Delaware, which aims to develop young professionals into effective non-profit board leaders, and serves as its President.

Arthur also serves on the board of Kind to Kids, a charity dedicated to helping Delaware's children in need. In addition, Arthur mentors students from the Delaware Youth Leadership Network and is a graduate of the 2013 class of Leadership Delaware.   

Arthur and his wife, Lauren, a fellow UD graduate, reside in the Pike Creek area.
