Joseph Baranello joined the University of Delaware athletics staff as assistant strength & conditioning coach in November, 2015.
Baranello comes to Delaware after serving the previous two years as an assistant at Elon University and previously serving on the staffs at the University of Central Oklahoma and Fordham.
At Delaware, Baranello will work closely with former Elon colleague and current UD Head Strength & Conditioning Coach and Assistant AD Ted Perlak in all aspects of the department.
While at Elon, Baranello's primary responsibilities were developing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for men's basketball, men's soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country and women's lacrosse. He also assisted with football and served as the department's internship coordinator.
In his time at Central Oklahoma, Baranello was responsible for developing and implementing the strength and conditioning programs for the women's soccer, women's tennis and men's golf programs. He also assisted with football, wrestling and men's basketball.
Prior to his stop at Central Oklahoma, Baranello spent one year as a strength and conditioning coach at Fordham University where he worked primarily with football, men's basketball, women’s soccer, and softball.
Baranello is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, a certified USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach, and is Functional Movement Screen Certified.
He was a two-year letterwinner in wrestling at Bergen (N.J.) Community College where he earned an associates degree in exercise science in 2009. In 2012, he was awarded his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from William Paterson University.
He and his wife, Samantha, reside in the Newark area.
