Joe Baranello
Assistant Coach

Joseph Baranello joined the University of Delaware athletics staff as assistant strength & conditioning coach in November, 2015.

Baranello arrived at Delaware after serving the previous two years as an assistant at Elon University and previously serving on the staffs at the University of Central Oklahoma and Fordham.

At Delaware, Baranello works closely with former Elon colleague and current Assistant AD for Sports Performance and Head Strength & Conditioning Coach Ted Perlak in all aspects of the department

Baranello has primary duties with the Blue Hen women's basketball, field hockey, and men's soccer programs with secondary support to the men's basketball team. The field hockey team captured the NCAA national title in 2016 while the men's soccer team won the CAA championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

 
While at Elon, Baranello's primary responsibilities were developing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for men's basketball, men's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's cross country and women's lacrosse. He also assisted with football and served as the department's internship coordinator.
 
In his time at Central Oklahoma, Baranello was responsible for developing and implementing the strength and conditioning programs for the women's soccer, women's tennis and men's golf programs. He also assisted with football, wrestling and men's basketball.
 
Prior to his stop at Central Oklahoma, Baranello spent one year as a strength and conditioning coach at Fordham University where he worked primarily with football, men's basketball, women's soccer, and softball.
 
Baranello is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, a certified USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach, and is Functional Movement Screen Certified.

He was a two-year letterwinner in wrestling at Bergen (N.J.) Community College where he earned an associates degree in exercise science in 2009. In 2012, he was awarded his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from William Paterson University.

He and his wife, Samantha, reside in the Newark area.
