Kallie Knop was hired to assume the new position of associate athletics director for communications and digital strategy in January, 2017.
In her role, Knop will oversee of all of the Department’s media relations and multimedia efforts, including the development of a long-term strategy to promote and enhance the Department through a variety of communication channels, from digital platforms and technologies to mobile applications.
The team will also continue to focus on items such as video content, writing, social media, web management, and the facilitation of all media inquiries and interview requests.
“We are so excited for Kallie to join us in this new role,” said UD Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations Stacey Bunting-Thompson. “Kallie brings a wealth of communications and digital marketing experience to the department which will be critical to the development of integrated strategies moving forward in support of athletics and recreation services. She has a strong skill set in inventive writing, content development and social media that will serve UD Athletics well. We look forward to her combining her professional knowledge with her passion and personal experience in college athletics.”
Knop comes to Delaware with a background in strategic public relations with over eight years of direct experience, most of those dedicated to major agencies and consulting firms in New York City. Coming from a journalism background, she is especially passionate about helping bring UD athletic stories to life through integrated communications campaigns.
“I am excited to join the University of Delaware team and work alongside an outstanding athletics staff,” said Knop. “I look forward to helping further integrate our department to best serve our coaching staff and student-athletes and am eager to explore new ways to tell the UD story to engage fans, donors, athletes, recruits, students, and beyond.”
Most recently, Knop was a Director in the Strategic Communications practice at FTI Consulting where she was responsible for driving external and internal communications strategy for Fortune 500 clients. During her time at FTI, she helped establish and lead her team’s digital program, including driving social media development as well as launching the team’s first ever e-marketing campaign.
Prior to joining FTI, Knop worked at Ruder Finn, an independent public relations agency in Manhattan, supporting a variety of accounts across proactive and reactive issues management, internal and external communications, and the development of strategic positioning campaigns.
She also has previous experience in consumer wellness and beauty public relations working with Behrman Communications in Manhattan, where she managed multiple account teams across media relations and event planning for emerging and startup consumer companies.
Her clientele has included PepsiCo, Pfizer, GE, CleanWell, Microsoft, Rituals, Novartis, Columbia Care, among several others. She has experience in the non-profit world, with previous positions and roles at the United States Olympic Committee, The Ronald McDonald House, Mount Sinai and Girls on the Run.
She also led several probono accounts during her time at FTI Consulting and founded the FTI New York Philanthropy Committee, helping to quadruple employee engagement efforts in charitable activities over the course of two years
She received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication in from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was an NCAA student-athlete on the women’s crew team and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.
