Guillermo Delgado (Men's Soccer) Earns National 5 & 10 Athlete of the Week Honors for Oct. 20

Story by Zach Lopes, UD Athletics Media Relations Student Intern

NEWARK, Del. (Oct. 20,  2014) -- University of Delaware men's soccer sophomore forward Guillermo Delgado is the National 5 & 10 Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 20, 2014.

Delgado, a health & physical education major from Tres Cantos, Spain (Jose Luis Sampedro HS), led the Blue Hens to a 2-0 week as Delaware upended Colonial Athletic Association foes Hofstra and William & Mary.

In addition to his National 5 & 10 Athlete of the Week award, Delgado was also named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week.

Delgado scored two goals on the week as he netted the game-winner with just 16 seconds left in overtime in the 2-1 win over Hofstra at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium on Oct. 15 and then scored once in the 3-1 road win at William & Mary, scoring the eventual game-winner midway through the second half.

For the season, the 2013 All-American and CAA Rookie of the Year leads the Blue Hens with 11 goals, a total that also leads the CAA and ranks No. 3 in the nation. He leads all NCAA Division I players with six game-winning goals.

Delaware (10-4, 3-1 CAA) will continue action this week when the Hens host Northeastern Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium and travel to the College of Charleston on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m.
