Jerel Harrison (Football) Earns National 5 & 10 Athlete of The Week Honors for Sept. 30

Story by Zach Lopes, UD Athletics Media Relations Student Intern

NEWARK, Del. (Sept. 30, 2014) -- University of Delaware junior wide receiver Jerel Harrison is the National 5 & 10 Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 30, 2014.

Harrison, a history major from Richmond, Va. (Varina High School), was the star of the second half in leading No. 25 ranked Delaware to a thrilling 30-23 overtime victory at Colonial Athletic Association rival James Madison Saturday in Harrisonburg, Va.

He hauled in an 86-yard touchdown pass from Trent Hurley with 1:37 left in regulation to give Delaware a 23-16 advantage and then caught a diving four-yard pass in the front corner of the end zone in overtime for the winning points. The 86-yard touchdown reception was the third longest pass completion in Delaware history.

For the game, Harrison caught four passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns. On the season, the third-year player has hauled in 10 passes for 172 yards for an impressive 17.2 yard per catch average.

Delaware (3-1) will return to action this Saturday when the Blue Hens open a three-game homestand vs. Sacred Heart at 3:30 p.m. at Delaware Stadium.
