BALTIMORE, Md. -- The University of Delaware men’s basketball team was picked fourth in the Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Poll while Devon Saddler and Jarvis Threatt were selected to the Preseason All-Conference teams at CAA Basketball Media Day held Tuesday at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel.

Saddler (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) was a first team Preseason All-CAA selection, while Threatt (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) was picked to the second team.

Towson was selected to win the conference title according to a vote of the league’s coaches, media relations directors, and media members. Drexel was picked second in the poll, followed by league newcomer College of Charleston and the Blue Hens. William & Mary was selected fifth, followed by Northeastern, James Madison, UNCW and Hofstra.

Delaware is looking to improve on a 2012-13 campaign in which the Blue Hens finished 19-14, earned the second seed in the CAA Tournament, and advanced to the league semifinals for the first time since 2003. Additionally UD advanced to the NIT Season Tip-Off Semifinals and won 13 CAA games, the most since joining the conference.

Saddler was a first team All-Conference and All-District selection as a junior last season, when he led the CAA and ranked 18th in the nation by averaging 19.9 points per game. Saddler, the second leading active scorer in Division I behind only Doug McDermott of Creighton, reached double figures in the first 32 games of 2012-13 and surpassed the 20-point mark 16 times.

Threatt earned third team All-CAA honors a year ago during his sophomore campaign, when he ranked second on the Blue Hens with 13.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. He also led the squad with 97 assists and 54 steals, and was the only player in the CAA to rank among the top 20 in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals.

Saddler was joined on the first team by CAA Preseason Player of the Year Jerrelle Benimon of Towson, Damion Lee of Drexel, Frantz Massenat of Drexel, and Marcus Thornton of William & Mary. The second team consisted of Threatt, Adjehi Baru of the College of Charleston, Quincy Ford of Northeastern, Andre Nation of James Madison, and Tim Rusthoven of William & Mary. Marcus Damas of Towson, Chris Fouch of Drexel, and Anthony Stitt of the College of Charleston were named honorable mention.

The CAA television schedule was also announced at Media Day, with the Blue Hens having 13 regular season games televised this season, including eight of their 16 league contests. Delaware’s season opener at Richmond will be shown by Richmond CBS affiliate WTVR, while the road game at Villanova on Nov. 22 will be shown by Fox Sports 1. The Blue Hens’ first three games of the BlackRock Gotham Classic will also be televised: Dec. 7 at Notre Dame on ACC Regional, Dec. 16 at North Dakota State on MeTV, and Dec. 18 at Ohio State on the Big Ten Network.

Comcast SportsNet will broadcast five of Delaware’s CAA contests, including the Jan. 11 game at James Madison in a rematch of last year’s tournament semifinal game. UD will also be featured on CSN on Jan. 18 at Northeastern, Jan. 25 vs. Towson, Feb. 1 vs. UNCW, and Feb. 23 vs. Drexel. The Comcast Network will broadcast the Towson home game as well, along with the Mar. 1 game at the College of Charleston in the Blue Hens’ regular season finale.

Additionally, NBC Sports Network will televise Delaware’s road contests at Drexel on Jan. 20 and Towson on Feb. 17.

Comcast SportsNet will also televise the four CAA Tournament Quarterfinal games on Mar. 8, while NBC Sports Network will show the semifinals on Mar. 9 and the championship game on Mar. 10.
