Guillermo Delgado Selected to ECAC Men's Soccer All-Star Squad

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Freshman Guillermo Delgado of  the University of Delaware men’s soccer has earned yet another post-season honor as he was named the to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC All-East) All-Star team.
 
The teams are comprised of student-athletes from a possible 88 institutions from 17 different conferences, and the balloting was completed by head coaches within the ECAC Division I Men’s Soccer membership.
 
The forward, who was most recently earned second team All-American honors, also earned ECAC second team honors. Delgado was just one of five freshmen recognized by the ECAC and was one of six student-athletes who represented the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) on the ECAC All-Star teams.
 
Will Smith and Marcus Luster of William and Mary, Dante Marini from Northeastern, and Chris Griebsch and Cameron Porter from Hofstra were also honored.
 
This past season, Delgado set new Delaware program records for goals (15) and points (35) by a freshman in a single season along with the record for consecutive games scoring a goal (5). Earlier in the month of December, Delgado was named to the NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region first team, becoming the 10th player in Blue Hen history to earn a regional first team award.

In November, Delgado was named CAA Rookie of the Year and was an All-CAA first team and All-Rookie Team selection. The freshman finished the 2013 season leading the Blue Hens and CAA in goals, points and game-winning goals.
 
The Tres Cantos, Spain native led Delaware to its best record in program history, as the Blue Hens totaled 14 wins and made its second NCAA Tournament appearance in the past three years. The forward’s 35-point season ties him for second all-time in the Delaware record books for points in a single season while his 15-goal rookie campaign ranks him fourth all-time in Blue Hen men’s soccer history for goals scored in a season.
