Delaware Swimming and Diving Win Big Over Northeastern and Drexel on Senior Day

NEWARK, Del.– The seven seniors of University of Delaware swimming and diving team shinned as the Blue Hens defeated both Drexel and Northeastern on senior day. The Class of 2014 accounted for nine top finishes as the Blue Hen men defeated Drexel 165-140.50.  The Delaware women topped Northeastern, 163.50-136.50 and dominated Drexel, 218-79.

The Delaware men were led by Cory Camp and Alex Hillsley, who were the only Blue Hen to tally two first place finishes.  Alex Tooley (at right), Tim Ware, Zach Lowe and Colin Hall each earned one first place finish.

Camp finished the 1000 Freestyle (9:45.00) and the 500 Freestyle (4:46.37) in the meet’s best times to pace the Hens. Hillsley earned his two first place finishes in the 100 Freestyle (47.05) and the 200 IM (1:55.58).

Alex Tooley earned the top sport in the 200 Freestyle thanks to a time of 1:43.51 while teammate Tim Ware completed the 100 Backstroke in 50.63. Senior Zach Lowe earned his only first place finish of the afternoon in the 200 Butterfly (1:52.65). Diver Colin Hall earned the top spot in the 1-Meter event totaling 276.75.

For the Blue Hen women, the 200 medley relay squad earned a first place finish against both Drexel and Northeastern. The squad that earned a 1:45.69 finish consisted of Alyssa Sanders, Annie Nunes, Kaitlin Wolla, and Morgan Whyte.

In the only other relay event of the meet, the Blue Hens also earned a first place finish against both teams. The 400 freestyle relay team of Maggie Tracy, Mary Kay Harris, Dominique Montoya and Whyte finished the heat in 3:33.36.

Whyte led the Delaware women with eight total first place finishes. Individually, she placed first against the Huskies and Dragons in the 50 freestyle (23.53) and the 100 free (52.72).

Senior Shea Solt(at left) and freshman Annie Nunes were the only other Blue Hen to earn a top finish against both Drexel and Northeastern. Solt finished the 1000 freestyle in a meet best 10:22.44 while Nunes earned two top spots in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.17) and the 200 IM (2:09.16).

Delaware returns to Colonial Athletic Association Action Saturday, Jan. 25 when the Hens travel to Towson, Md. to take on the Tigers. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
