RICHMOND, Va.  --  It was quite a debut for University of Delaware redshirt freshman Chad Martin this week.

Martin, a right-handed pitcher for the Blue Hen baseball team, allowed just one hit in his first collegiate start in leading the Blue Hens to a 6-2 win over Campbell Sunday at the final day of the Campbell Invitational in Buies Creek, N.C..

On Tuesday, he was rewarded by being named the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Rookie of the Week.

Martin, a 6-4, 205 lb. civil engineering major from Darnestown, Md. (Quince Orchard High School), helped the Blue Hens (3-4) win their second game of the day Sunday as he went seven innings and allowed just two runs on one hit while walking two and posting a strikeout.

Martin, who made his debut last weekend when he pitched a scoreless inning in a 6-1 setback to nationally-ranked Louisville, now owns a 2.25 earned run average in eight innings pitched in his rookie season.

He was one of four players honored by the CAA on Tuesday as James Madison third baseman Ty McFarland was named Player of the Week; UNCW sophomore Nick Monroe was dubbed Pitcher of the Week; and UNCW outfielder Casey Golden shared Rookie of the Week honors with Martin.

Delaware, led by head coach Jim Sherman, will continue action this week as the Hens open a three-game set vs. Fordham beginning Friday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m. and continuing with games Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. both days. All three games will be played at Harford Community College in Bel Air, Md. due to weather-related delays to renovations at UD’s Bob Hannah Stadium on campus.
