RICHMOND, Va.  -- Thanks to a dominating effort on the mound in a 4-0 victory over Fairfield Sunday, University of Delaware redshirt freshman Chad Martin has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 16.

A righthander from Darnestown, Md. (Quince Orchard High School), Martin was honored by the CAA for the second time this season after earning league Rookie of the Week honors back on Feb. 24.

Martin was brilliant during his outing Sunday as he hurled a complete game two-hit shutout as the Blue Hens (9-8) completed the three-game weekend sweep over the Stags. The Hens had earlier downed Fairfield 10-2 on Friday and 15-4 on Saturday.

Martin did not walk a batter and struck out a career-high 13 batters. Martin retired the first 11 Stag batters before allowing a double in the fourth and then set down the next seven batters before allowing a seventh-inning single. No Fairfield runner reached third base the entire day. It was his second straight impressive outing as he took a no-hitter into the seventh inning as part of an 11-1 win over Rider on March 9.

He became the first Delaware pitcher to hurl a complete game shutout since Michael Londino tossed a two-hitter in a 6-0 win over Delaware State on Mar. 16, 2010. The 13 strikeouts were the most by a Blue Hen hurler since Matt Soren struck out 15 La Salle batters in eight innings of work during a 2-0 Delaware victory on May 4, 2013.

For the season, Martin owns a 3-1 record with a 2.33 earned run average and 22 strikeouts in 27 innings. He leads the league in opponent batting average as foes have collected only nine hits and are batting just .108.

Delaware, which has won five of its last six outings, will return to action Tuesday to host the University of Maryland at Harford Community College in Bel Air, Md. for a 6:30 p.m. start. The Hens will be looking to avenge a 10-1 loss at Maryland last Tuesday.

In addition to Martin, William & Mary junior Michael Katz was named CAA Player of the Week while Northeastern pitcher Dustin Hunt was tabbed CAA Rookie of the Week.
