RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware freshman third baseman Giovanna Kolofer was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Kolofer, a native of Salinas, Calif. (Notre Dame HS), led the Blue Hens with a .700 batting average, seven hits, four RBI and three stolen bases last week, when Delaware won two of its three games.

Kolofer went 3 for 4 with a two-run single and also scored a run during Thursday’s 5-3 win at Penn. She then finished 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI single in the opener of the doubleheader at UNCW on Sunday. Kolofer again went 2 for 3 with an RBI single during the 5-3 nightcap victory over the Seahawks.

Kolofer is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak, and now leads the Blue Hens with a .386 batting average and seven stolen bases. She ranks second on the team with 11 runs batted in, and is tied for third with seven runs scored.

The conference award is the first of Kolofer’s young career. She is the second Delaware player to earn CAA Rookie of the Week honors this season, along with Carolyn Szymanski who was honored on Mar. 4.

Kolofer and the Blue Hens return home on Wednesday to host UMES in a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m. at the UD Softball Stadium.
