RICHMOND, Va. – For the fifth time this season, a member of the University of Delaware women’s lacrosse squad was honored by the Colonial Athletic Association as Caitlin McCartney (Doylestown, Pa.) earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

In Friday’s loss to James Madison, McCartney caused a game- and career-high five turnovers in addition to collecting a team-best four groundballs.

For the week, McCartney posted five groundballs, two draw controls and five caused turnovers.  Offensively, the junior collected four goals and two assists for six points.

McCartney has now recorded at least one point in 44 consecutive contests and leads the Blue Hens with 36 goals.

With Sunday’s win over William & Mary, Delaware improved to 10-5 on the year and finished CAA action with a mark of 3-2.  Based on head-to-head competition, the Blue Hens cannot finish lower than Hofstra (5-8, 0-2 CAA) or the Tribe (2-11, 0-3 CAA) in the league rankings and therefore earns their first trip to the CAA Tournament under fourth-year head coach Kateri Linville.

McCartney shared Defensive Player of the Week honors with Lexi Cross (James Madison) as Towson’s Ashleigh Rohrback earned Player of the Week accolades.  Michelle Gildea (Towson) was named the Rookie of the Week.

Delaware will conclude the regular season on Tuesday, April 22 as the Blue Hens host No. 17 Stony Brook at 5 p.m.
