RICHMOND, Va. - After a masterful performance in the University of Delaware’s 9-1 victory over Hofstra on Sunday, redshirt freshman Chad Martin received Colonial Athletic Association Co-Rookie of the Week honors for the period ending April 20.
This award marks the third time this season Martin has won a CAA weekly honor. The right-hander earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors for the period ending Feb. 24 and also won CAA Pitcher of the Week laurels for the period ending March 16.
The redshirt freshman from Darnestown, Md. (Quince Orchard High School) pitched his second complete game of the season as the Blue Hens (17-19, 5-6 CAA) defeated Hofstra 9-1 Sunday. Martin earned his fourth win of the season, allowed seven hits, and collected two strikeouts to give Delaware its second win in a row.
Martin came within two outs of notching his second complete game shutout of the season. Had the he been able to accomplish that feat, Martin would have been the first Blue Hen pitcher to have two complete game shutouts in one season since Jason Vincent hurled three of them in 2001.
For the season, Martin owns a 4-3 record with a 4.85 ERA. The redshirt freshman has 35 strikeouts in 55.2 innings pitched this season. The victory on Sunday was his first since a complete game shutout against Fairfield on March 16.
The Blue Hens will next be in action Wednesday as they host Temple at Bob Hannah Stadium. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
In addition to Martin, College of Charleston freshman pitcher Bailey Ober was also awarded CAA Co-Rookie of the week.  UNC-Wilmington senior Mat Batts received CAA Pitcher of the Week honors, while fellow Seahawk Steven Linkous and William and Mary’s Kevin Casey were each named CAA Co-Player of the Week.
