SOUTHPORT, N.C. -- The University of Delaware men’s golf team will conclude its 2013-14 regular season this weekend when the Blue Hens compete in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships at St. James Plantation.
The conference tournament will be held on the par 72, 6,784-yard Founders Club course at St. James Plantation, with the eight league schools competing for the conference’s automatic berth in the NCAA Championship.
Eight teams will compete in the three-day, 54-hole event including the Blue Hens, College of Charleston, Drexel, Hofstra, James Madison, Towson, UNCW, and William & Mary. Delaware is looking to improve on last year’s fifth place finish, which tied for the highest finish by the Blue Hens at the CAA tournament since joining the league.
Action on Friday and Saturday will begin at 9 a.m. with split-tee times, with play on Sunday starting at 8 a.m.
Delaware will be paced by sophomore Kyle Martin, who leads the team with a 76.63 average round and has posted a pair of top 20 finishes this season. Senior co-captain Dan Costenbader, who along with Martin has appeared in all 10 invitationals during the year, ranks second on the squad with a 76.75 stroke average and has posted the only two top 10 finishes by a Blue Hen.
Junior co-captain Niño Rosal is third on the squad by averaging 77.68 shots per round, while Fraser Graham has recorded an average round of 77.95 which ranks fourth on the Blue Hens. Sophomore Colin McKenna has appeared in four tournaments this spring after joining the program over the winter, posting a 78.70 stroke average.
Delaware, led by 13th-year head coach Mike Keogh, has posted five top 10 team finishes during the 2013-14 season, including a pair of fifth place finishes at the Navy Fall Classic and Villanova Wildcat Invitational.
