WILMINGTON, Del. – As the spring semester wound down, University of Delaware student-athletes took a break from studying as the Blue Hens recently visited Warner Elementary School.

UD partnered with Warner fourth and fifth graders for the fourth straight year as the day including programming from Radio Disney with dancing, games and contests.

“It was just amazing to see how excited all the kids are when they see some of their role models,” commented Tobias Müller, a senior on the Blue Hens men’s soccer team.

“We like our students to have seeds planted in their lives so they can see the next steps and athletics gives you that team spirit while learning a lot of character traits, strong healthy character traits and being part of a team,” remarked Alice Conlin, academic dean at Warner Elementary.

Both the Blue Hens and Warner Elementary look forward to continuing the relationship in the future.

"Community outreach is definitely one of the most enjoyable and rewarding things about working in this field," said Assistant Director of Marketing & Promotions Lauren Baker. "Seeing the kids’ faces when the student-athletes walk in and knowing that we helped impact a child’s life just by spending a few hours with them makes it all worth it. I’m glad that we are able to continue fostering this relationship with Warner and am already excited to see what next year has in store with them!”
