DEDHAM, Mass. – On the brink of ending its season, Delaware battled the entire game and eventually came out on top in Sunday’s 4-3 decision at Northeastern.

With the win, the No. 14 Blue Hens (14-5, 4-2 CAA) clinched a berth into the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament for the fifth straight year.  The loss ends the Huskies season with an overall record of 5-13 while going 2-4 in conference play.

Freshman Greta Nauck (Krefeld, Germany/Gymnasium am Moltkeplatz) led Delaware with five points on two goals and one assist while senior Michaela Patzner (Rosenheim, Germany/Karolinen Gymnasium) tallied a goal and assist of her own.

The day’s most crucial goal, however, came in the 59th minute and was the game-winner from sophomore Taylor Lister (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin).  Lister created her own goal on the right side after a breakaway from the midfield line.

Sophomore goalie Emmeline Oltmans (Baarn, The Netherlands/Het Baarnsch Lyceum) collected two saves in the victory.

Kate Carlson notched two goals for NU while Natalie Stewart and June Curry-Lindahl each had two assists on the day.  Senior Becky Garner ends her illustrious career with the Huskies with eight saves against the Hens.

Due to Delaware, Hofstra and Drexel all finishing conference action with a 4-2 record, a tie-breaker system pits goal differential as the determining factor in seeding for the upcoming tournament.

The Blue Hens receive the second seed and will face Hofstra, the third seed, as UD had a +11 goal differential while Hofstra was at +3 and Drexel was at -1.

Head Coach Rolf van de Kerkhof
“Today felt like a championship game between two teams that had something at stake.  I’d like to compliment my team for playing together, ready to fight, execute the game plan and feed off of each other on and off of the field.  We are excited to once again represent the University of Delaware at the CAA Tournament and compete for a chance to punch our ticket to the NCAA Tournament.”
