Lafferty Tied For Third, Blue Hens Tied For Fourth After First Day of Navy Fall Classic
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The University of Delaware men’s golf team is tied for fourth place while Blue Hen junior Blaine Lafferty is tied for third following Sunday’s opening round of the Navy Fall Classic.
The Blue Hens, coming off their season-opening win at the Colgate Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational two weeks ago, carded a 293 score on Sunday to end the day tied for fourth place out of 16 squads. Wagner leads the field with a 283 score, followed by Robert Morris at 288 and California (Pa.) at 290. Delaware, Drexel and Navy are each tied for fourth place in the standings.
Lafferty fired a one under par 70 on the par 71, 6,528-yard Naval Academy Golf Course to end the day tied for third place in the individual standings. Reid Bedell of Lafayette and Connor Tallman of Navy are tied for the lead at three under par, while Lafferty is one of six players who are two shots back.
UD sophomore Mark Benevento is tied for 16th place with a one over par 72 while classmate Bobby Diforio, playing as an individual, is tied for 18th place with a two over par 73.
Senior Marc Oliveri fired a four over par 75 to end the day tied for 34th place, while junior Kieran Purcell is tied for 44th place with a five over par 76 and junior Jack Gianniny is tied for 71st place with a nine over par 80.
The second and final round of the tournament is scheduled to take place on Monday.
