Blue Hen Cross Country To Host CAA Championships Saturday at White Clay Creek
NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women’s cross country team will host the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Saturday at White Clay Creek State Park.
The eight-kilometer men’s race, featuring six league teams, will begin at 10 a.m., while the Blue Hens will be one of nine women’s teams competing in the six-kilometer race at 11 a.m. An awards ceremony will take place at 12 noon following both races. For the first time, fans can watch both races via Facebook Live, at Facebook.com/caasports.
Delaware, led by head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith, is looking to continue its impressive fall season that has seen the Blue Hens win the Lehigh Invitational title and finish second at the Delaware Invitational and Blue Hen Invitational, both of which were also held at White Clay Creek.
UD freshman Mackenzie Jones has been the Blue Hens’ top finisher during each of the four invitationals that she has competed in this fall, while Liz McGroarty has been Delaware’s second best finisher at three meets and Lauren Zodl has posted a pair of top 10 finishes. Gabby Alaimo, Stephanie Bazan, Claire Beautz, Kathleen Dailey, Molly Doyle, Becky Gessler, Analise Kaminski, Emily Paolucci, Valerie Romero, Angie Spadaccini and Melissa Talley have each competed in four races for the Blue Hens during the fall campaign.
William & Mary has won each of the last four women’s team titles and each of the last 16 men’s titles.
Following the meet, the Blue Hens will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 11 when they compete in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals at Penn State beginning at 10 a.m.
