Camp, Kiely Each Post 34th Place Finishes for Delaware at Day 3 of AT&T Winter Nationals
ATLANTA -- University of Delaware senior Cory Camp and sophomore Asher Kiely each took to the pool Friday morning during the third day of the USA Swimming AT&T Winter Nationals at Georgia Tech’s McAulay Aquatic Center.
Camp, a senior co-captain from Olney, Md. (Blake High School), closed out his competition at the meet as he placed 34th overall in the 200 freestyle preliminaries, swimming to a time of 1:43.19 and placing sixth in his heat. Maxime Rooney of the University of Florida had the top time with a clocking of 1:34.73. During Thursday’s action, Camp placed 40th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:40.78.
Kiely, a sophomore from South Kingstown, R.I. (South Kingstown HS), took part in his first day of competition by also placing 34th in the preliminaries of the 100 backstroke. He swam to a time of 50.19 to place eighth in his heat and finish 34th out of 48 swimmers. Bob Glover of Indiana had the top time with a showing of 46.13.
The Blue Hens will close out action at the meet on Saturday with Kiely taking part in the 200 backstroke beginning at 9:20 a.m. The meet includes the top swimmers from throughout the United States.
Camp, the Colonial Athletic Association 500 freestyle champion in 2015 and runner-up in the event in 2016, swam in three events at the 2015 USA Winter Nationals and had a top finish of 34th in the 400 individual medley. He also competed in the 1,500 freestyle and 400 freestyle.
Kiely placed fourth in both the 200 medley relay and in the 400 medley relay at the 2016 CAA Championships.
