CARSON, Calif. – The stage is set for Delaware forwardGuillermo Delgado (Tres Cantos, Spain/Jose Luis Sampedro) as he looks to embark upon a professional soccer career beginning this weekend with the 2017 adidas MLS Player Combine.

The Combine, held at the StubHub Center, gives each Major League Soccer team an up-close and personal look at the 66 prospects that will be entering the 2016 SuperDraft, which will take place January 13 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The 66 players were divided into four teams, which will play three games each, with doubleheaders set for January 8, 10 and 12. 

Delgado, a member of Team Control will begin play Sunday with a 4:15 p.m. ET contest against Team Chaos.  Action continues for Team Control on Tuesday with a 6 p.m. ET match versus Team Tango before wrapping action on Thursday against Team Copa at 1 p.m. ET.  Games will be streamed online at

In addition to playing three contests, the players will also be participating in interviews and physical testing.  The physical tests occur on Saturday, with all players set to do a 30-meter speed test, vertical jump and 5-10-5 agility test.

"This week's MLS Combine is where every college senior wants to be this week," stated Blue Hens head coach Ian Hennessy.  "It's a great opportunity for Guillermo to showcase himself alongside the nation's best players and to be directly in front of every MLS coaching staff."

Delgado, the 2016 CAA Player of the Year, earned NSCAA All-America recognition for the fourth consecutive year, landing a spot on the Third Team this past season. He earned his fourth consecutive selection to the All-CAA First Team and fourth straight spot on the NSCAA All-Midwest Region First Team after posting 12 goals, eight assists and 32 points to lead the Blue Hens to the CAA Championship and berth in the NCAA Championship.

The nation's active career leader in points (117) and goals (49) finished his four-year career in a Blue Hens uniform as the school's all-time leader in five statistical categories: points, goals, assists (19), game-winning goals (17) and shots (282). In addition, he made his mark in the CAA record book, finishing his career tied for fifth all-time in goal and sixth in points, becoming the first player since 2003 to record at least 40 goals and 100 points.

Delgado joins Evans Frimpong ’12 as the lone Blue Hens to ever be invited to the MLS Combine.  Frimpong was drafted ninth overall in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft by the Chicago Fire.  He most recently was a member of the Oklahoma City Energy and Puerto Rico FC.
