Delaware Swimmers and Divers Drop CAA Tri-Meet with Drexel, Northeastern
PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams returned to action for the first time in over a month Saturday afternoon but the Blue Hens fell to host Drexel and Northeastern in a Colonial Athletic Association tri-meet at the Daskalakis Athletic Center Pool.
The Delaware men (1-6, 0-3 CAA) dropped a 203-96 decision to the Dragons while the Blue Hen women (3-7, 0-4 CAA) fell to Drexel by a 214-84 score and to Northeastern by a 200-98 margin.
Delaware swimmers captured five first place finishes on the day led by Patrick Savidge, who won both the 100 breaststroke (58.72) and 200 breaststroke (2:07.68) events for the Blue Hens.
Also for the Delaware men, Kevin Basch won the 1,000 freestyle (9:33.64) and Cory Camp was a winner in the 200 butterfly (1:55.31). Delaware posted its lone win on the women’s side in the 200 butterfly where Mina Feyrer touched the wall first in a time of 2:06.18. Feyrer also had the Hens’ lone second place finish as she swam the 100 butterfly in a time of 57.37. Jordan Sawyer and Sarah Braatz each contributed two third place finishes.
Savidge also placed second in the 200 medley relay (1:34.71) and second in the 200 individual medley (1:53.48) while Camp was second in the 1,000 freestyle (9:39.23), Andrew Woerth was second in the 200 medley relay and 50 freestyle (21.97), and Asher Kiely was second in the 200 medley relay and in the 200 backstroke (1:54.77).
Delaware will return to action next Sunday, Jan. 14 when the Blue Hens travel to Iona for a non-league meet at 12 noon in New Rochelle, N.Y.
